PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

What is preventive medicine?

Almost all physicians practice preventive medicine, including treatments and advice to improve and protect your health and reduce your risk of serious illness and disease. Dr. Sidhu and the House Of Healing team provide preventive medicine services to individuals of all ages.

Because of their extensive experience in treating older patients, they have first-hand knowledge about the risk factors and warning signs of many diseases, including dementia, which they use to provide medical advice to their patients. Their expertise allows them to recommend vital lifestyle changes early to reduce their risk of severe or chronic illness later in life.

For example, the dangers of smoking have only become apparent in the last few decades. Now that doctors can see the ill effects of smoking on older patients, they can use that information to help younger patients quit tobacco products. Similarly, they can identify health complications caused by obesity and offer weight management advice to anyone who needs to help, which can help patients prevent and even reverse chronic conditions like diabetes.

Dr. Sidhu and her team provide highly customized, preventive health care. They offer comprehensive physical exams, which are the foundation of preventive health care. Not only do they develop a detailed understanding of your personal and family medical history, but they also offer a variety of services and tests, including:

  • Health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes
  • Cancer screenings, including Pap smears, breast exams, and PSA screening
  • Smoking cessation support
  • Weight management advice
  • Mental health screening

Routine annual exams and health screenings allow your provider to monitor your health and provide medical care and advice when your tests show signs of illness, even before you begin to experience any symptoms.

Dr. Sidhu provides customized advice and support to address your specific health needs. However, in general, you can take steps to protect your health on your own.

First, make sure to attend your annual physical. These appointments are essential to monitoring your health and getting the personalized attention and advice you need to protect your health.

Second, eat a nutritious and balanced diet and get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity daily. You should also avoid using tobacco products and limit your consumption of alcohol, sugar, salt, and fat. This can help you maintain a healthy weight and mitigate other risk factors that threaten your health, reducing your risk of developing various health complications.
