What is Functional Medicine?

According to the Institute for Functional Medicine, functional medicine is “an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness.”

Conventional medicine focuses on the branches and leaves of the tree, organ systems, and disease diagnoses. Functional medicine looks at the trunk and roots, the fundamental imbalances (trunk), and the foundational lifestyle factors: sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress levels, relationships, and genetics (roots and soil).

Our office does not accept insurance for Functional Medicine as insurance providers do not recognize it as a specialty. However, we provide membership pricing for individuals seeking hormone evaluation and balance and a fee-for-service option for individuals looking for overall physiological balance while dealing with complex health conditions.
